Basal Pressure Variations Induced by a Turbulent Flow Over a Wavy Surface

چکیده
Turbulent flows over wavy surfaces give rise to the formation of ripples, dunes and other natural bedforms. To predict how much sediment these transport, research has focused mainly on basal shear stress, which peaks upstream highest topography, largely ignored corresponding pressure variations. In this article, we reanalyze old literature data, as well more recent wind tunnel results, shed a new light induced by turbulent flow sinusoidal surface. While Bernoulli effect increases velocity above crests reduces it in troughs, exhibits variations that lag behind topography. We extract in-phase in-quadrature components from streamwise profiles compare them hydrodynamic predictions calibrated stress data.

Direct Numerical Simulation (dns) of Turbulent Flow over Wavy Surfaces
Abstract. The present study adresses the turbulent flow over a wavy surface by direct numerical simulation (DNS). Compared to classical channel flow the wavy surface structure adds a degree of complexity to the flow by inducing streamline curvature, flow separation and flow reattachment, thus leading to flow situations which are often present in relevant technical and geophysical applications. ...
متن کاملTurbulent Flow over Cars
In this paper the flow behaviour over a number of car bodies is studied. For this purpose the unsteady 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations have been applied. After averaging and nondimensionalizing the equations, the system of equations has been transformed from the Cartesian (x-y) coordinates to a body fitted generalized (-) coordinate. As the flow is incompressible, the density in the ...

Turbulence structure on the gas side of a wavy stratified flow was experimentally investigated in a near horizontal 18.7 cm (H) 10 cm (W) 5.5m (L) rectangular duct.By applying the Variable Interval Time Averaging (VITA) technique to the hot wire anemometer measurements frequency of occurrence of turbulent events were detected near the air-water interface. Experimental results showed that fr...

We report on the isogeometric residual-based variational multiscale (VMS) Large Eddy Simulation of a fully developed turbulent flow over a wavy wall. To assess the predictive capability of the VMS modeling framework, we compare its predictions against the results from direct numerical simulation (DNS) and, when available, against experimental measurements. We use C quadratic B-spline basis func...
متن کاملNumerical Modelling of Flow Over A Rigid Wavy Surface by LES
A flow field over a rigid wavy surface is numerically generated. The general concept of the large eddy simulation that captures the large scale flow structure is utilized. A coordinate transformation scheme is developed to transform any wavy surface to a flat surface. The numerical computations are carried out in the co ~ domain. The subgrid scales are resolved by utilizing a Smagorinsky subgri...
